Run Report – 4 Sept 2023

Our next new intake of Couch to 5K training starts this Thursday 7th Sept at 7pm at The Dolphin in Bovey Tracey. This is an initial meeting to explain the concept, and how it will be delivered over the next 12 weeks – note that there will be no running at this first meeting.

These sessions are ideal for someone who hasn’t run before or has had a long gap and wants to restart. If you are unable to attend and you want more information, then please send us an email to [email protected].

Last weekend there were several BVR runners out at the Lustleigh Fair to take part in the annual 10k race. This is always a very popular local race, and well known for challenging terrain around the village.

The BVR finishers were Paul Fletcher 53:25, Steve Cooney 55:50, Rob White 57:58, Lynsey Rowe 1:04:10. Ruth Bushell 1:09:20, Debbie Sommerfield 1:11:18, Nicola Huckerby 1:21:39 and Jon Evans 1:21:39.

And as the weather warms up the races continue – but the sun and the heat make for more challenging runs.

Rob White was up in London again for the Vitality Big Half in what has now become an annual event on his calendar. With approximately 15,000 runners it is a big and well organised race taking in Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge and the Cutty Sark in Greenwich. The blue skies made for a hot run, although there were plenty of aid stations and several fireman’s hoses to cool you down.

Rob finished in 2:07:22.

The Bridgwater Half Marathon is a nice flat course, starting to the East of the town and heading out across the Somerset levels and canal. Whilst the alfresco ladies toilets were met with some amusement there were some great times – Larissa Sullivan 1:58:14, Chris Sullivan 2:10:24 and Sally Shoolbraid 2:11:41.

Up in Cheltenham Mikey Campling was competing in his first ever half marathon and finished in a fine time of 1:58:01, whilst Sue Campling took part in the 10k, with a time of 1:14:24.

Jill Bishop took part in Winding Path’s City to Sea Half Marathon – a gruelling race from Dawlish Warren along the Coast Path to Dawlish, Teignmouth, and Shaldon before finishing at Babbacombe Downs. Unfortunately she took a nasty fall on the section before Dawlish, but after a patch up from the medics she carried on and completed in 4:34:57.
