Run Report – 11 Mar 2024

There was a variety of different races and terrains that Bovey Valley Runners participated in last weekend.

Out on the South Cornwall coast was the Polruan Shuffle organised by Purple Gecko events. This is a 12-mile trail run along the Coast path from Looe to Polruan. Thankfully it was dry, but still cold and exposed along the path, with much care needed not to slip and slide.

Maurice Raymont finished in 2:37:43.

Over at Okehampton, skirting the north-west edge of Dartmoor, were the Granite Way races starting from Okehampton Railway Station and following the cycle path on a 5-mile out and back route. Two race distances were on offer, 10 miles or 20 miles.

Completing the 10 miles were Mary Cornish in a brilliant 1:32:04 (and finishing first in the FV55 age category), then Justin Worsey 1:46:23 and Steph Alder 1:46:25, followed by Jacqui Baker 1:56:39 and David Black 1:56:42.

The 20-mile race had Mikey Campling in 3:12:28 (in his longest race so far), Kathryn Carroll 3:46:17 and Jill Bishop 3:46:32.

The Bideford Half Marathon starts in the town and follows the River Torrington south towards Great Torrington before returning. The course is half on roads and half on the Tarka Trail and is a reasonably flat route, good for a fast time. Thankfully the weather held out, even bringing some sunshine at times.

The BVR runners were Amanda Hemelik 1:44:18, Beccy Kennedy-Bruyneels 1:55:21 (in a 10-minute PB), Tim Ashman 1:55:22, Howie Brugge 2:01:59, Sally Shoolbraid 2:05:51 and Amii Shelley 2:06:38.
