And so on one of the hottest summer weekends of the year a band of intrepid Bovey Valley Runner’s took up the Trotters challenge of the Haytor Heller.
10 challenging kilometres across Dartmoor with nearly 400m of ascent, starting 2/3 of the way up the hill to Haytor.
There was a staggered start this year to minimise the impact of a mass start, with the slow plod up to the top of Haytor and then across to Black Hill. Dropping down to cross Becka Brook followed by the severe climb to Greator Rocks and over to Hound Tor and a well-earned drinks stop.
The return journey took us back down to Becka Brook and another climb up Holwell Tor and on to Haytor. Finally, we had a downhill section to the finish line just above the bottom car park.
Another very well organised event with plenty of cheery marshals encouraging us to just keep on going!
