Wintry weather has definitely returned to the Southwest, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the hardy BVR runners at a few recent events.
The Sidmouth 10k is a steady road race down to the seafront. The Esplanade did have a bracing head wind, but the runners took advantage of it after the turnaround point. With a couple of hills, it was a challenging event. Pete Waygood finished in a time of 55:50 and Nicola Huckerby in 1:06:53.
Meanwhile in Haldon Forest, Forestry England had 5k and 10k trail races on Sunday morning. These use the established trail routes in the forest with a good selection of hill climbs. There were over 100 runners in the 10k, and Amanda Hemelik produced a fabulous performance to take first female finisher (and 6th overall), with a time of 50:35.
It’s always good to support local events, and so on the same rainy Sunday there were quite a selection of BVR at Stover School for the Teignbridge Trotters Templar 10 race. This 10-mile race is virtually all off road, and so the water had succeeded in making for a very muddy run.
It was great to see all the local running clubs participating, with just under 200 runners taking part.
Paul Fletcher led the way from BVR with a time of 1:20:22, followed by Emma Start 1:26:10 (taking second place in the FV50), Steve Cooney 1:27:45, Mary Cornish 1:37:31 (second place in the FV55), Sally Shoolbraid 1:42:28, Ilona Baughan 1:47:48, Jenny Williams 1:47:58, Deborah Sommerfield 1:49:51 and David Black 2:00:08.
