It was a cold and wintry night when 3 of the BVR club took part in the 10th running of the Wild Night Run from South Brent – Debbie Chew entered the 5-mile Mild version, and came away with a fabulous third place, plus first in her age category V50.
The 10-mile Wild route had Maurice Raymont and Rob White heading out of the village and up the hills to Didworthy, and along to Shipley Bridge. Heading towards the Avon Dam the route then took a sharp uphill climb onto the moor and over Dockwell Ridge – whilst trying to avoid as much of the gorse and mud as possible.
A rolling section of road took them back through Didworthy and then the steep Diamond Lane climb back onto a very wild and windswept moor. A jaunt across the hilltop through Ball Gate, followed by the long descent back into South Brent.
Many thanks to all the marshals and the local Scouts who were guiding the way in the dark out on the moor, and our local Olympian Jo Pavey who was competing in the event.
Debbie finished the Mild run in 1:00:21, whilst in the Wild Run Maurice completed in 1:54:10 with Rob just behind in 1:54:15.
